Frequently Asked Questions

How do I play Leaves of Blocks?

Drag and drop block pieces from the tray onto the 10×10 grid. When you fill an entire row or column, it clears and scores points. The game ends when no remaining piece can fit on the board. Try to clear multiple lines at once for higher scores!

What are the different difficulty modes?

Beginner mode gives you more flexible piece placement to ease into the game. Standard mode is the classic experience. Expert mode increases the challenge with more complex piece combinations. You can change the difficulty at any time in Settings.

Is Leaves of Blocks free?

Yes, Leaves of Blocks is completely free to download and play. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription fees, and no ads — ever.

How is Leaves of Blocks different from Block Blast?

Both are 10×10 block puzzle games — the format is the same. The differences are everything else. Leaves of Blocks has zero ads of any kind, collects zero user data, was built by a single developer in the United States, and works completely offline. Block Blast is the genre's most popular game (around 2.3 million App Store ratings) but is widely known for aggressive ad placement and substantial data collection shared with advertising partners. We have a full side-by-side comparison on our vs. Block Blast page.

Is Leaves of Blocks a good Block Blast alternative?

Yes — it was built specifically as an ad-free Block Blast alternative. Same 10×10 grid, same drag-and-drop tray of pieces, same satisfying line clears. The differences are zero ads, zero data collection, zero in-app purchases, and it works completely offline. If you enjoy the Block Blast format but are tired of the interstitial video ads and ad-network tracking, this is the alternative you're looking for.

Why no ads? Isn't that how free apps work?

Most "free" mobile games are actually ad-supported, which means your attention and your data are the product being sold. Leaves of Blocks rejects that model entirely. The game is genuinely free — no banners, no interstitials between rounds, no rewarded videos, no subscription. The trade-off is that the developer absorbs the costs (App Store fees, hosting this website) personally. We think a quiet block puzzle is worth more than the ad revenue we are giving up.

Does the game collect any of my data?

By default, the app collects no user data and transmits nothing to any server — your scores and game history are stored exclusively on your device. If you choose to opt in to Apple Game Center (off by default), your scores and achievements are submitted directly to Apple as part of their first-party service. We never see that data, and there are still no ads, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs. Note that this website uses Google Analytics for anonymous page-view statistics. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Is Leaves of Blocks open source?

Yes. The full game source — Swift, SwiftUI, the works — is available on GitHub under the MIT license. You can read the code, build it yourself, file an issue on the tracker, or fork it for your own purposes.

Why is the game open source?

Two reasons. First, trust: we make claims about no ads, no trackers, and no data collection. You don't have to take our word for it — you can read the code and verify. The privacy story is auditable, not a promise. Second, the game was built by one person for the love of the format. Open-sourcing it means anyone curious about how a small SwiftUI app comes together can read along, learn from it, or borrow pieces for their own work.

How do I reset my game data?

Go to the Settings screen within the app and tap "Reset Game Data." This will permanently delete all your scores, game history, and statistics from your device. This action cannot be undone.

Does the game work without an internet connection?

Yes. Leaves of Blocks works completely offline. You can play on airplanes, in areas without cell signal, or anywhere else without any internet connection required. If you enable Apple Game Center, scores and achievements will sync the next time you're online.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

The game's source is public on GitHub. The fastest way to report a bug or suggest a feature is to open an issue on the tracker. If you'd rather not use GitHub, email support@leavesofblocks.com and it'll get to the same place.

Does Leaves of Blocks support Game Center?

Yes, optionally. Apple Game Center support is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, your scores and achievements are submitted to Apple's leaderboards. We don't add any tracking, ads, or third-party SDKs to make it work — Game Center is Apple's first-party service, governed by Apple's privacy policy. You can disable it at any time.

Which devices does Leaves of Blocks support?

Leaves of Blocks runs on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Silicon Mac (via Mac Catalyst). It requires iOS 16 or later. The interface adapts to each screen size for the best experience.

Is the game available in other languages?

Currently Leaves of Blocks is available in English and Spanish. More languages may be added in future updates.
